What is 5 ½?
Simply, 5 ½ is an urban high-style Bar and Artist’s Lounge that is named after its address on E Garden Street in Downtown Pensacola, FL. If you take a look around the bar’s unique quaint space you will find that there is nothing really “simple” about it. For instance, the building that we share with Vinyl Music Hall was built in the 1800’s and was the original home to the fifteenth Florida chapter of the Freemason brotherhood, and it was also the home of downtown’s Pensacola Hardware store before they moved into their current location.
How would you describe an evening at 5 ½?
Our idea behind the “feel” of 5 ½ Bar is for our guests to walk in and feel like they have been invited by a premier local artist to join them at their swanky, downtown loft for a fun and hip cocktail party. The beer, wine, and booze are flowing while the music is jamming in the background, and both are helping set the tempo for the rest of the night’s events and conversations. Take a walk behind the bar (yes, we said behind the bar) and open the back door which leads to our private courtyard/alleyway. Styled after the “vicolos” in Italy, it’s the place where all of the industry folks like to relax with the evening sky. An added bonus to the party is its proximity (next door) to one of the hottest and best new music venues on the Gulf Coast, Vinyl Music Hall!
When did 5 ½ open?
On August 28th, 2010, the 5 ½ Bar opened to the public with nothing but humble metal signage on the entry facing Garden Street. Since then, we have hosted wine and spirit tastings and other private events.
What makes 5 ½ different from the other bars in Pensacola?
Our bartenders specialize in handcrafted drinks that feature the best liquors and liqueurs, the freshest juices and syrups, and the best glassware that can be found or made. From classic to contemporary, you can trust our bar staff to come up with a custom, well-crafted concoction suited to satisfy any palate.
Our wine, beer, and spirit libraries have been hand-selected to provide a healthy variety for the most discerning palates. Take a gander or ask your barkeep for a “bartender’s choice” if you feel overwhelmed by the selection.
We wish you enjoy your stay with us and hope you invite a friend to our next loft party.
